Breast Implants or fat graft with Mastopexy…Which one is right for you?

“The use of breast implants in mastopexy or breast lift/reduction patients is very controversial and a hotly debate topic at international conferences”, says Leading Plastic Surgeon, Dr Kourosh Tavakoli.

One of the challenges of breast lift with implants is the opposing goals of the procedure. On the one hand, you are decreasing the skin envelope whilst simultaneously increasing the breast volume. The competing goals of the procedure therefore carries with it a high risk of reoccurrence of breast droopyness or sagging.

To overcome this risk, many plastic surgeons opt to stage the procedure, performing the breast lift first followed by implant augmentation 6-12 months later.

A pioneer for fat graft in breast surgery here in Australia, Renowned Plastic Surgeon Dr Kourosh Tavakoli has come up with the use of large amounts of fat grafting to the breast (anywhere from 100mls to 250mls per breast) as a means of eliminating the use of an implant in up to 80% of patients who require mastopexy.

In this VLOG, Dr Tavakoli explains when he will perform a breast lift with implants either as a single or staged procedure and his alternative method of lipoaugmentation with mastopexy or reduction.
